Sister School Program

Sister School Team meeting cropped 1.jpg

The Sister School philanthropic program benefits the students of the San Ramon Valley Unified School District (SRVUSD) by fostering civic responsibility, enhancing community engagement, promoting volunteerism, and by teaching the joy of helping others. This goal is accomplished by partnering each school in the SRVUSD with a partner school in a neighboring disadvantaged area of the East Bay. Through collaborative determination of need, schools in the SRVUSD conduct a minimum of two drives and/or fundraisers per year for items that benefit the children of their sister schools.

We are very proud of our unique program and we are looking forward to another amazing year! Our unit level Sister School Program Ambassadors have once again made some exciting plans- be sure to check your school communications to find out what is happening with your school's Sister School Program. Our SRVCPTA monthly newsletter also highlights Sister School events - please subscribe on our PTA Council home page.

Our Sister School Ambassadors are volunteer parent leaders, who play an important role in providing unity, building momentum and growing sustainability at their school sites. These Ambassadors are also important links to each other, for sharing ideas and offering support. Our goals include:

  • Helping new and returning Ambassadors build capacity through cross-unit collaboration
  • Building visibility about our Program through targeted communication at the unit and district levels
  • Maintaining our "Sister School Program Guide to Best Practices"
  • Practicing flexible planning that meets the needs of our Sister Schools

The Sister School Program is a district-wide, PTA-sponsored program that began in 1994 as "The Cross County Partner School Program" (also known as "Cross County Books/Clothes"). A majority of SRVUSD schools participate in the Program.

SRVUSD schools are partnered with schools located in a variety of East Bay cities including Richmond, San Pablo, Antioch, Pittsburg, Concord, and Oakland.

Each participating PTA unit has a Sister School Program Ambassador who is an active volunteer member of their PTA Board, and is responsible for coordinating the program at their PTA unit.
